Who is the Woman on the Beast?

In Revelation chapter 17, an angel talked with John and said, "Come I will show you the judgement of the great harlot who sits on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication." John was then carried away in the spirit to the wilderness. He precedes to describe for us what he sees: A woman arrayed in purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls. She has a gold cup in her hand filled with abominations and filth. She has a name written on her forehead: Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Of The Abominations Of The Earth. This woman is sitting on the scarlet beast, which has 7 heads and 10 horns. John also saw that this woman was drunk on the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. The last thing John mentions about this woman is that when he saw her, he marveled with great amazement!

Who is this woman that John has seen that has made him marvel above all the other things he has seen in heaven thus far? You don't have to guess who this woman is because I think scripture makes it crystal clear. The angel said to John, "Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and the of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the 10 horns."
